
Despite dropping the first decision of the 2026 campaign, the boys varsity lacrosse team has reset nicely since, with a thrilling victory over Route 11 Rival Potsdam and a thorough rout of St. Lawrence Central.
Wednesday, April 1 – Plattsburgh 6, Canton 5
Canton’s season debut took place on the road in Plattsburgh, and the Bears struggled to get their offense going. Despite a barrage of shots, the Bears were unsuccessful in finding the net.
Canton’s scoring came from its elder statesmen in the opening contest. Senior Tyler Lovely registered two goals for the Bears and added an assist. Senior Hayden Towle also tallied two goals, while senior Jack Brandy added one goal and an assist. The three goal scorers combined for 20 shots, while junior Ben Kenna also fired five attempts, senior Caleb Briggs shot twice, and senior David Seymour, senior Austin Gregori, and junior Colden Francey each shot once.
Seymour led the way for the Bears in ground balls, snapping up seven. Lovely, Brandy, Gregori, and junior Robert Palmer all had two ground balls, while Briggs and Towle each had one.
Sophomore Konnor Baxter was in goal for the Bears in this contest. He also registered a ground ball, while making 10 saves.
Wednesday, April 15 – Canton 8, Potsdam 7 (OT)
After Spring Break, the Bears came back and righted the ship in an instant classic with Potsdam.
Canton managed to find the net a few more times in this contest, the final tally coming in overtime. Outstanding goaltending from Baxter gave the Bears an opportunity to win.
The final score of the contest came off the stick of Brandy, who made a move around a defender from the top of the restraining box. After charging to his right, Brandy created enough separation to wire a shot on cage, which just clipped the top right corner of the net past the goaltender’s stick.
The game winner was Brandy’s second goal of the game. He and junior Owen Logan led the Bears in scoring, both netting two goals and an assist. Francey, Towle, Kenna, and Briggs all added solo goals to round out the scoring for the Golden Bears.
Saturday, April 18 – Canton 10, St. Lawrence Central 1
After two tough contests on the road to start the season, the Bears settled in at home with a rout of the Larries over the weekend, even without a few normal starters.
On the day where he was recognized with the Crusher Award, Seymour led the way for the Bears on the scoreboard and all over the field. His four goals and nine shots were both game highs for Canton, and he was also responsible for several forced turnovers.
Towle notched two goals for the Golden Bears, as did junior Griffin Coakley. Briggs and Lovely each added a goal as well.
Briggs led the way in the assist column, contributing on three scores while picking up five ground balls. Francey tallied two assists and three ground balls. Towle had an assist and four ground balls. Coakley had one helper and two ground balls, as did Gregori. Lovely and Kenna both also added an assist each, with Lovely picking up one ground ball and Kenna getting two.
Jack Garcia grabbed five ground balls, while Josh Stone grabbed two and Palmer, Riley Clifford, Konnor Forbes, Hayden Todd, Justin Towle, and Jameson Giordano each tallied one.
Junior Nate Berkman backstopped the Bears in this contest, making four saves.
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Massena to take on the Raiders, who look to return to the win column after a narrow loss to Potsdam on Friday. At 1-1 in league play, the Bears sit at the bottom of the West Division in Section X with one game in hand over third place Ogdensburg, and two games in hand over Potsdam and Massena, who are tied for first at 3-1.
