Boys Varsity Soccer Dominates in 5-0 Win over Malone

On Friday, October 9, the Bears played their first match of their back-to-back games over the weekend. The Bears opened their second half of league play with domination over the Huskies, beating them 5-0.

Canton opened up with a bang two minutes into the game when senior Griffin Coakley fired a well-placed shot into the net assisted by midfielder Simone Leonardelli to kickstart the dominant poise the Bears played with throughout the game.

Many more shots came from many Canton players like Coakley and striker Wyatt Francey but were denied. The Bears moved the ball well using seniors Will Andes and Colden Francey as centerpieces to push the ball downfield. Senior Aaron Rosales shut down multiple offensive drives from the Huskies to help preserve the lead.

Canton netted two more goals right before halftime when Coakley scored his second goal of the day from a close-in rebounded shot after runs from Leonardelli and Wyatt Francey. Francey scored a goal of his own a few minutes later hitting it off of the underside of the crossbar and in the net following a skilled give-and-go feed between Andes and Colden Francey to set him up.

Coming out of halftime, Andes quickly increased the lead to 4-0 when he took space in the box and slotted a shot in the low left corner. Canton continued to keep control of the game through the second half similar to how they did in the first 40 minutes.

Coakley completed the hat trick and continued to seal the game as he increased the lead to five in the 68th minute with a shot to the low right corner off of a helper from Andes.

The Bears preserved the shutout to the end of the match despite some chances coming for Malone off of fouls from Canton. This was a statement win for the Bears showing they will be  competitive in section play as they rematch the rest of their league opponents.
