Boys Varsity Soccer Takes Control Over The Match And Beats Potsdam 3-0

On the sunny morning of October 10, the Bears played their 2nd game in two days taking on the Potsdam Sandstoners in an important league match. Canton took care of Potsdam soundly securing the 3-0 win.

The game kicked off with a very fast pace involving downfield runs from both sides. The Bears maintained amazing ball movement through the midfield. Potsdam settled into a defensive stance with most of their players positioned deep in their own end to prevent any scoring chances for the Bears.

Canton made many defensive plays in the middle of the half such as a goal line clear from junior Matt Holbrook following a Potsdam breakaway and saves from goalkeeper Sean McCluskey kept the game scoreless.

Canton struck first late in the first half when freshman Wyatt Francey ripped a shot from 30 yards out that banged off of the left post and into the net. That one goal lead for Canton was carried into halftime.

Within the 42nd minute to open the second half. Senior Will Andes was tripped up in the box while driving the ball in and was awarded a penalty kick. Andes blasted the ball into the top-right corner to double the Canton lead.

Canton controlled possession and momentum throughout the 2nd half. Holbrook displayed his solid play with another goal line clear from a corner kick. Andes notched his second goal of the day by launching an incredible bending shot into the top-left corner from outside the box to seal the Bears win.

Senior Griffin Coakley missed a shot just wide in the 67th minute after a nifty spin move. The Bears played well to close out the final minutes and get the win.

This 3-0 win for the Bears marked the second shutout win in two days Canton won after defeating Malone 5-0 the previous day.
