Bears fall to the Sandstoners in the Route 11 Rivalry game with a loss of 38-0

On Friday, September 11, the Canton Golden Bears headed down the road to take on the Potsdam Sandstoners. The Bears fought hard for the win but just couldn’t pull through, ending in a 38-0 loss. However, this doesn’t mean the Bears totally lost their drive and motivation.

“The best thing we did last night was stick together as a team,” Coach Chad Kenna said.

The Bears kept their stride and stayed resilient until the very end. Staying united was a key factor. Kenna shared that the effort was there; the team just didn’t execute the way it should have.

He also mentioned how the Bears have a really young team which leads to inexperienced mistakes and that as a staff, they continue to coach up the young players. Becoming a strong and good team takes time, and in order to do that they have to make mistakes to learn and become better as a result.

In the last game against Saranac Central, quarterback Trey Klassen suffered an injury leaving him out of Friday’s game. In his place was JT TeRiele.

“He played well but had his mishaps,” Kenna said. “Replacing a dynamic player like Trey Klassen is challenging.”

The Bears stepped up and put their best efforts forward to play the game. Kenna believes that playing Tupper Lake this weekend at home will help boost the football atmosphere and team morale and that the Bears need to continue to believe in themselves and simply execute.

The Bears have a long season ahead of them, which offers plenty of opportunities to get better.

“Each day the goal is to improve, and I don’t think we are far off,” Kenna said.

The Bears home opener is this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against Tupper Lake Central School. Come out and show your support for this hardworking, driven team. Show them community support and be loud and proud.
