The Golden Bears wasted little time making a statement to open the 2026 volleyball season Thursday night, sweeping Route 11 rival Potsdam in three straight sets.
Canton controlled the match from the start, taking the opening set 25-14 before earning a 25-17 win in the second. The Bears saved their strongest performance for the final set, rolling to a 25-9 victory to complete the 3-0 sweep of the Sandstoners.
The Bears played well together throughout the night, getting contributions from across the lineup in their first match of the season.
Elle White led Canton at the net and from the service line, finishing with six kills, five blocks, six service points and three aces.
Sophomore Delia Gaurin chipped in three kills and a block, while Lia Montanero and Zoey Zebedee each finished with six service points for the Bears.
Canton (1-0) will look to build on its strong start when it hosts Ogdensburg on Tuesday, Sept. 8, for its home opener against the Blue Devils.
