On Saturday, September 5th, the Canton Golden Bears headed out on the road to play their season opener against Saranac Central. The Bears put their best foot forward heading into the game and their performance was solid, but they still fell short with a 26-6 loss.
The Bears won’t let this outcome affect their season and they are already preparing for their next game.
“The game was hard fought on both sides,” Head Coach Chad Kenna stated. “Early calls that didn’t go our way were game changers on a costly turnover.”
Even with this disadvantage the Bears never lost their steam and they kept their perspective strong.
Kenna expressed that the boys stayed together throughout the whole game and continued to work hard until the very end. He also said that the team captains, Ben Kenna, Murphy Burke, TJ O’Brien and JT TeRiele all played excellent and displayed the on the field leadership we need moving forward.
This was the positive attitude and teamwork that the coaches wanted to see heading into the season. With the efforts of working together and not losing their drive, it helps set up a strong season for the Bears.
“We as a coaching staff preach that we can’t coach effort and these guys dig deep each play,” Kenna said.
As the Bears move on throughout the season Kenna has confidence in his team and believes that there is a good mix of experience to keep getting better. This is only the beginning for the Canton Golden Bears and they have a hunger to prove themselves.
The Bears are set to play the Potsdam Sandstoners in Potsdam on Friday, September 11th, at 7:00pm. Go Bears!
