Canton Hosts Second Home Meet of Season and Competes at American Legion Invitational

As the track and field season reaches its peak, the Canton varsity team is showcasing its improvement and preparing for major meets that are quickly coming up later this month.

On May 5th, Canton hosted a home meet against Potsdam and Tupper Lake. Despite the strong winds, the athletes ran, jumped, and threw with grit.

On the girls side, Melanie Ward placed fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 15.50 seconds.

Taking first in her debut of the girls 800 meters was Kailin Backus with a time of 2:43.

In the 1500 meters, Addison Ragan placed fourth with a time of 6:09.

Aurora Casserly placed second in the girls 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:21.

In the girls triple jump, Isabella Perretta placed third with a distance of 30 ft. 8 in.

In the boys 100 meter dash, Owen Matthews placed first with a time of 12.00 seconds.

Placing first in the boys 200 was Dayshawn James with a time of 24.30 seconds.

In the boys 800 meters, Zachary Lyndaker placed fourth with a time of 2:20. Carson White was right behind, running a 2:21.

In the 3200 meter run, Cedric Harper placed fourth with a time of 11:45.

William Andes placed second in the boys high jump with a height of 5 ft. 4 in.

On May 9th, the team traveled to Madrid-Wadington for the American Legion Invitational. The athletes had some impressive performances at a selective meet against the rest of the section.

Parker Gallagher placed third in the girls 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.14 seconds.

In the girls 400 meter hurdles, Kailin Backus placed first with a time of 1:10.

In the girls discus, Natasha Rossiter placed fourth, throwing 84 ft. 3 in.

In the boys 800 meter run, Justin Towle placed second with a time of 2:15.

The Canton boys 4×400 meter relay, consisting of Crosby Terrell, Duncan Harper, William Andes, and Dayshawn James, placed first with a time of 3:41.

In the boys shot put, Parker Hurlbut placed third, throwing 38 ft. 5 in.

The next meet will take place on May 13th at Canton Central School. On Saturday the 16th, the historic Van Dusen will be held at Ogdensburg Free Academy.
