Bears Defuse Green Rockets At Home

Bears 11 Morristown 1

The Morristown Green Rockets traveled to Canton to play the Golden Bears on Thursday afternoon in a nonleague Varsity Softball match up.  The Rockets scored first on a two out run scoring double by Scarlett Ritchie but the lead did not last long.  The Bears punched across two runs of their own  in the bottom of the frame on a two run double from senior, Tessa Alguire that gave them a 2-1 lead, on their way to an 11-1 victory.

Elise Harris (23)

The Bears only tallied five hits in the game, scoring most of their runs on aggressive baserunning.  Alguire and junior Elise Harris finished with two hits each.  Shaylee Olmstead had the only other hit in the game.

Alguire also picked up the win from the circle, pitching five innings, striking out eight.  Elle White picked up the save, pitching two inning, striking out three.  The two aces combined for a two hitter.

Aida Baker (7)

“We struggled to put any big innings together today but we chipped away picking up a couple runs every inning.  Morristown is a good team and they made a lot of very nice defensive plays that prevented us from really breaking the game open.  The play of the game though was Shaylee Olmstead’s diving play in the top of the 5th. After the dive, she threw the runner out from her knees to complete the gold glove play.  That was sweet!” From Coach Mike Wentworth

Harper Elvy (16)

Next Game:

The Bears will be back on the field on Friday against the Franklin Academy Huskies.  First pitch is scheduled for 4:30.
