The Canton Golden Bears wrapped up their regular season with an impressive four-set win over the OFA Blue Devils on Tuesday night, capping off an undefeated run in league play. The game was a thrilling back-and-forth battle between two well-matched teams, filled with long rallies, powerful serves, and a loud, supportive crowd that kept the energy high from start to finish.
Before the match began, senior manager Rose Towne was recognized for her outstanding dedication and behind-the-scenes work that helped make this season such a success. From keeping stats and gear organized to bringing steady positivity to every game and practice, Rose has been an invaluable part of the Bears’ volleyball family. “Rose is the kind of person every player wants included on their team,” said team captain Elle White. “She’s always there for us, cheering us on and doing everything she can to help. We’re so lucky to have her.”
Once the match began, the Bears came out strong, taking Set 1, 25–17. OFA responded with their own 25–17 win in the second, tying the match and keeping fans on the edge of their seats. Canton regrouped in the third, grinding out a hard-fought 25–22 victory. In the fourth and final set, the Bears carried that momentum forward, closing out the match with a confident 25–18 win to remain perfect in league play.
Setter Zoey Zebedee ended the night with 17 assists, 10 digs, 12 service points, and 4 aces. At the net, Delia Gaurin and Elle White were dominant forces, each recording 10 kills and 5 blocks. White also added 15 service points and 6 aces, proving to be a threat from all areas of the court.
The Bears will now enjoy a short break before entering the Section X Class C playoffs, where they’ll face Madrid-Waddington at Salmon River on Tuesday, November 4. With an undefeated league record and strong team chemistry, the Golden Bears are eager to carry their momentum into postseason play.
“We’re really proud of how far we’ve come as a team,” said head coach Carla Wentworth. “The girls have worked hard all season, supported one another, and grown with every match. We’re excited for playoffs and ready to compete for that Class C title.”
