The Canton Golden Bears powered through a tough match Thursday night, defeating the Tupper Lake Lumberjacks 3-1. Canton jumped out to an early eight-point lead in the first set, but the Lumberjacks battled back to take it 25-23. The Bears regrouped quickly, winning the next three sets 25-17, 25-14, and 25-23 to secure the victory.
Tupper Lake put up a determined fight, forcing Canton to work for every point. Sophomore co-captains Amal Moumen and Elle White anchored the Bears’ offense and defense. Moumen recorded 4 kills, 1 block, 9 digs, 11 service points, and 2 aces. White had an outstanding night, finishing with 14 kills, 4 blocks, 9 digs, 19 service points, and 6 aces.
Freshman Delia Gaurin added a spark with 6 kills and 11 service points, while teammates Elise Harris, Claire Polniak, and Zoey Zebedee chipped in 7 points to round out a balanced team performance.
The Golden Bears will be back on the road Tuesday, September 30, when they take on the Salmon River Shamrocks, looking to continue their winning streak.
