Mod. Boys Soccer win 2-1 in dramatic fashion

Salmon River, NY – Veknach scores two, has one called back in a 2-1 victory over the Shamrocks.

The Moddy Golden Bears hit the road Wednesday to take on the Shamrocks in Salmon River. Early on, the Bears were able to sustain consistent offensive pressure, peppering the home goaltender and would eventually lead to Omar Veknach scoring the opening goal of the game. The second quarter was more of the same for the Bears. 7th graders Logan Blackburn, Jack Bellinger, Henry Gould and Orion Gomez were each able to create scoring chances but unable to find the back of the net. Late in the half, a cross from Andrew Shipman found Veknach on the goal line for a header into the net. However, the goal was quickly ruled offside.

The second half became more of a “back and forth” contest. It was the Shamrocks who struck first, placing the ball just over the outstretch finger tips of goaltender Jack Knowlton, who came in for the Bears in the second half.

In the 4th quarter both the Bears and Shamrocks found their chances but neither were able to convert. With 90 seconds remaining on the clock, Veknach split two defenders and broke away towards goal, finishing off the play and putting the Bears ahead for good.

Veknach was named player of the game for his effort on offense. Defenders Darren Potter, Ayden Mousaw and Ayden Brezault-Hoffman were lauded for their efforts defensively.

The Moddy Bears (Your favorite soccer team) are back in action next Tuesday (9/30) as they hit the road to take on Gouverneur. Game time 4:30pm
