The Moddy Bears split their last two games, losing the first to Massena 6-0, then rebounding to take their first league win over Potsdam, 4-1.
The game started back and forth until Massena was able to establish consistent offensive pressure. The Bears were able to hold off the attack, limiting scoring opportunities to long shots outside of the box. However, late in the 1st period, Massena was able to break through and end the tie. Early in the 2nd Quarter, Massena was able to find space again, doubling the margin of victory and putting the Golden Bears on their heels. While down two on the scoreboard, the Bears rallied. Their intensity as a team picked up and were able to control the pace of play and find a few scoring opportunities of their own. Unfortunately for Canton, they were unable to find the back of the net. The game finished 6-0 in favor of the Raiders.
Thursday’s contest between Canton and Potsdam proved to be a much more positive outcome for the young Bears. They quickly found and sustained offensive pressure. Early on, the Golden Bears were able to break the ice with a goal from CM Ayden Mousaw. Later in the quarter, the Bears were given an indirect kick in the box. Striker Andrew Shipman slid the pass to Omar Veknach for his first goal of the season.
In the second half it was Andrew Shipman, scoring on an “uphill” freekick from 25 yards out. Ayden Mousaw would seal it in the 4th quarter, scoring from a sharp angle and putting the game out of reach for Potsdam. 8th graders Jack Knowlton and Darren Potter were given co-players of the game for their outstanding contributions on defense.
