The boys varsity soccer team made history to start the 2025 season with the program’s first-ever win over Chazy, a longtime early season opponent that often marks the start of the Bears’ annual campaign.
Aug. 28 – Canton 1, Chazy 0
Relentless defensive efforts from Canton and clutch saves from goaltender Zadok Roiger staved off a relentless barrage from Chazy.
With around 20 minutes left, a through ball from Tomi Husinec got through the Chazy keeper’s hands and Will Andes shot snuck through a defender to give Canton a late lead in the second half.
Aug. 30 – Canton 1, Beekmantown 0
After another relentless effort by Canton’s defense, with a clutch goal line block from Husinec and several blocks from Robert Palmer resulted in Canton’s first-ever championship in Chazy’s annual tournament.
Colden Francey battled hard on both sides of the ball. Owen Logan maintained control of the midfield with clutch clearances and physicality. Roiger served up another amazing performance between the pipes.
In the end, Logan lifted the Bears past Beekmantown. Andes worked his way through multiple defenders and dished a swift pass to Logan, who ripped one with his left foot that curled into the bottom corner.
Sept. 6 – Canton 3, Gouverneur 0
In an early game on the weekend, the Bears fought a hard game that was determined by physicality in the midfield and on defense. Logan again played a strong and physical game in the midfield, drawing several fouls from an aggressive Wildcat squad.
Palmer played with much composure and controlled the defense, coming up with some clutch clearances within canton defensive third.
Husinec scored late in the game with a corner kick after a scoreless first half, and Canton’s offence could not not be stopped from there. With a hard pass on the ground, James Trombley scored a tap in goal from Andes six yards out. Andes again assisted on Francey’s goal to bring the final score to three for the Bears.
