The modified Golden Bears welcomed the Wildcats of Gouverneur to the Golden Bear turf this Saturday, falling 2-1 in Overtime. The first quarter went back and forth between the Bears and Wildcats. Both teams were able to create scoring opportunities but neither were able to capitalize. In the 2nd, it was Gouverneur who struck first with a well placed shut just beyond the reach of Canton goaltender Jack Knowlton. At halftime, the Wildcats led 1-0.
In the 2nd half the Golden Bears begin to find their footing. A foul just outside of the box led to a golden opportunity for the Bears. 7th grader Jack Bellinger was able to capitalize with a free kick, scoring the equalizing goal.
The game continued back and forth until the whistle blew for the end of regulation. In overtime, both teams were able to consistently create scoring chances. However, it was the Wildcats who broke away on the counter-attack and found the game winning goal.
7th grader Laken Hitchman was named player of the game for the Bears, limiting the Wildcat offense with numerous tackles and pass interceptions. Goaltender Jack Knowlton recorded 8 saves during the contest.
The Moddy Bears are back in action this Tuesday (9/9) in Malone (Rec. Park Duane St. Field) at 4:30pm.
Go Bears!
