From Golden Bear to Golden Grizzly, Alguire commits to DI Oakland University

Tessa Alguire, daughter of Alison and Bill Alguire, is the latest Canton athlete to commit to play athletics at the collegiate level. The upcoming senior has verbally committed to play softball for the Division I Oakland University Golden Grizzlies.

Oakland is located in Rochester, Michigan and competes in the Horizon conference. The Grizzlies are known for playing a tough non-league conference schedule that included the 2025 National Champion Texas Longhorns last spring.

Alguire is a three-time Section X First Team All-Northern, two time Central League Co-MVP, two time Times All North and two time All-State selection. This past year she also earned All-Northern honors in both Swimming and Basketball.

Alguire, who owns numerous softball school records at Canton as a pitcher and shortstop, will see most of her time as an outfielder/infielder at the collegiate level.

“I am so happy for Tessa and her family,” stated Canton Softball Coach Mike Wentworth. “She has put so much time and effort into the sport of softball and I think she will have the opportunity to excel at Oakland over the next four years. Her athletic ability and overall numbers speak for themselves but it is her work ethic, aggressive style of play and team first attitude that stands out the most to me. She is an outstanding role model for the younger players and hopefully this will open some doors for other players in our area.”
