The Canton girls varsity lacrosse team has advanced to the New York State Class D championship game for the first time in school history after defeating Windsor by a score of 15-8 Friday morning at SUNY Cortland.

The Golden Bears got off to an early start, opening up a 4-0 lead before allowing a pair of goals. The Bears would go on another run in the second quarter, scoring six straight to take a 10-4 lead at halftime.
Windsor made things interesting with a four-goal run of their own to start the third quarter, but Canton eventually settled in and took back over.

Junior midfielder Olivia Francey led the Bears on the scoresheet, tallying seven goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Saige Blevins chipped in three goals and two assists. In goal, sophomore goaltender Zayda-Ann Gaurin stopped seven shots in the winning effort for the Bears.
Canton will play Cold Spring Harbor from Section VIII for the New York State Class D title Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at SUNY Cortland. Cold Spring Harbor defeated Section III South Jefferson in the semifinals on Friday morning, 12-5.
