Bears Reign Over Radiers In Softball

In Massena on Wednesday afternoon, Canton 5, Massena 1

The Golden Bears Softball team beat the rain and the Raiders on Wednesday afternoon by the score of 5-1 in a game that was cut short by rain.  The game was called because of the sloppy field conditions in the top of the sixth inning, making it a complete game.

Tessa Alguire battled tough field conditions and picked up the win, striking out seven.

The Bears had a sluggish start offensively but came alive in the fifth inning, scoring 3 big runs.  Olivia Sommerstein, Elle White, Shaylee Olmstea and Aida Baker all collected two hits in the winning cause.  Olmstead smoked a two run triple in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.

We have played three games in a row in the rain.  The girls have become real “Mudders” as Coach Willette would say in the old days.  They seem to really focus and play well in tough conditions.  With that being said, I hope we can start playing in some nicer weather soon,” stated Coach Wentworth.

The Bears are scheduled to play OFA at home on Thursday to finish up a four game week.  First pitch is scheduled for 4:30.
