Weather Breaks, Bears Break it Open Versus Stoners

In Canton at Ike Noble Fields on a rainy Tuesday afternoon, Canton 12, Potsdam 3

The Canton Varsity Softball Softball team hosted route 11 rival the Potsdam Sandstoners Tuesday afternoon.  The game once again had to be moved up to Wayne Willette field because of poor field conditions on the main field.  It rained on and off up until game time and then the skies cleared in time for the game.

The Stoners gave the Bears everything they could handle in the early inning trailing by only one run until the Bears broke it open in the sixth inning for a 12-3 win.  Freshman Elle White picked up the win in the circle, striking out nine and only allowing 3 hits.

The Bears sticks were cold for most of the game until Jenna Larrabee smoked a three run double to deep left field to break the game open.  Larrabee finished with two hits in the game.  Tessa Alguire ripped three hits and added four more stolen bases to her own record.  Elise Harris also banged 2 hits in the winning cause.

“The Stoners played us tough and we seemed to hit a lot of balls right at them.  We struggled to get much going offensively but we seemed to scrape a few runs across late.  I like the way Cliffy swung the bat today.  We made a couple very nice defensive plays today that kept us in the game early.  Tessa and Olivia made a couple “Web Gems” each but the 1-2-3 double play in the 6th inning was sweet, ” remarked Coach Mike Wentworth following the game.

The Bears hit the road to Massena for an early start because of a school concert.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:30.
