The Canton girls varsity lacrosse team has improved its record to 8-0 on the season, and have turned in only dominant performances along the way.
Wednesday, April 30 – Canton 20, Potsdam 2
The Sandstoners proved no match for the Golden Bears in the latest iteration of the Route 11 Rivalry in girls lacrosse. Canton racked up a 10-1 lead after the first quarter and floated to victory afterward.
Canton’s offense was prolific and balanced, with three players each scoring four goals: junior midfielder Saige Blevins, junior midfielder Olivia Francey and eighth grade midfielder Mamie Coburn. Sophomore attacker Madie Ayrassian added two goals, as did senior attacker Ella Mousaw, who also had an assist. Blevins, too, registered one assist.
The biggest statistical performance of the afternoon, however, was turned in by senior attacker Vivian Coburn, who only scored one goal but contributed 10 assists in the winning effort. Coburn also won three draw controls, as did Francey. Blevins added four draw controls.
The scoring was rounded out by eighth grade attacker Mary Sergi and sophomore attacker Elena Abplanalp, who each scored once.
Sophomore goaltender Zayda-Ann Gaurin made four saves in the contest.

A weekend contest on the road saw the Bears earn yet another shutout victory, this time over the Shamrocks.
