Canton’s girls varsity lacrosse team came roaring out of the gates last week, sending a dominant message against two league opponents.
Tuesday, April 1 – Canton 18, Massena 0
Canton’s season got off to a fast start, as the Bears shut out the Raiders in the home opener.
Junior midfielder Saige Blevins led the way for the Bears on the scoreboard, tallying five goals and three assists. Senior midfielder Vivian Coburn also tallied five goals in the contest, along with two assists. Coburn also dominated the faceoff dot, winning nine draws.
Junior midfielder Olivia Francey offered up four goals and an assist, while sophomore attacker Madie Ayrassian, eighth grade midfielder Mamie Coburn, senior attacker Ella Mousaw and sophomore attacker Elena Abplanalp all added a goal.
Sophomore goaltender Zayda-Ann Gaurin stopped all three shots she faced to secure the shutout win for the Golden Bears.
Thursday, April 3 – Canton 17, OFA 1
The offense continued for the Bears in their first road game of the season, as Canton traveled to Ogdensburg to dispatch the Blue Devils.
Blevins once again led the way for the Bears with six goals and three draw controls.
Vivian Coburn contributed three goals and two assists while earning five draw controls.
Francey scored twice for the Bears, while Mamie Coburn, Mousaw, Ayrassian, freshman mifielder Ashley Aldous, senior defender Winnnie Downs, and eighth grade defender Lily Abplanalp all added a solo goal. M. Coburn, Ayrassian, and Downs all added an assist as well.
Gaurin backstopped the Bears once again, stopping one shot in goal.
