Varsity Baseball Tops OFA to Play for Section X Title

The Canton Golden Bears Varsity Baseball team topped the OFA Blue Devils 4-1 in 10 innings on a hot Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Gavin Schryver would lead off the game reaching on an error after a hard ground ball was hit to the Blue Devils’ Second Basemen. Junior Jackson Ames reached first on a fielder´s choice but Schryver would be called out at second base. Zadok Roiger would put Jackson Ames in the same situation after he grounded into a fielder’s choice but reached first. Charlie Todd reached first after a walk leaving the Bears with runners on first and second with 2 outs. J.J. Ahlfeld singled to center field scoring Zadok Roiger. Parker Ames grounded out to third base ending the inning. The game would remain scoreless with both teams playing spectacular defense and making mistakes on the basepaths.

Finally, in the bottom of the seventh inning, OFA would force a run across. OFA’s pinch runner would score after two steals and a wild pitch forcing the game into extra innings. In the top of the 10th inning, Gavin Schryver would reach first after a single to left field. Zadok Roiger reached on a walk and Charlie Todd reached on a Hit by Pitch. J.J. Ahlfeld hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field scoring Schryver and eventually Roiger after a bad throw from the OFA infield. Parker Ames would score Charlie Todd with a single to left field. Canton pitchers Charlie Todd and Zadok Roiger had a combined 18 strikeouts.

The OFA pitchers had a combined 6 strikeouts. Canton moved on to the Championship game to play Potsdam at St. Lawrence University.
