On Wednesday, May 22, the Canton modified track team finished off their season with an invitational at OFA. They competed well, despite the extreme heat. Other teams attending included Ogdensburg, Potsdam, Massena, Tupper Lake, Gouverneur, Madrid-Waddington, and Norwood-Norfolk.
In the boys 55 meter hurdles, John Mitchell placed fifth with a time of 11.33 seconds.
Parker Gallagher placed fourth in the girls 55 meter hurdles with a time of 11.53 seconds.
In the boys 200 meter dash, Zachary Lyndaker placed 11th with a time of 31.17 seconds. Andrew Downing placed 12th with a time of 31.52 seconds. In 14th was Carson White with a time of 32.12 seconds. Elijah Williams placed 25th with a time of 36.62 seconds. In 26th was Ayden Hoyt, running the race in 37 seconds.
In the girls 200 meters, Melanie Ward placed second with a time of 31.07 seconds. Sola Oakley placed sixth with a time of 32.31 seconds. In 14th was Dilek Eissenstat with a time of 35.26 seconds. JessieJean Coffin ran the race in 35.41 seconds, placing 15th. Jillian Richardson placed 16th with a time of 35.62 seconds. Isis Casserly placed 28th with a time of 40 seconds.
In the boys 1500, Cedric Harper placed fourth with a time of 5:40. Parker Smith ran the race in 6:00, placing fifth.
In the girls 1500, Addison Ragan placed seventh with a 6:44. Sophia Choi was right behind in eighth, running the race in 6:45.
In the boys 100 meter dash, John Mitchell placed ninth with a time of 14.51 seconds. Andrew Downing placed 15th with a time of 15.45 seconds. Ayden Hoyt ran the race in 17.18 seconds, placing 23rd.
Sola Oakley placed third in the girls 100 meter dash with a time of 14.68 seconds. In fifth was Melanie Ward with a time of 15.14 seconds. Parker Gallagher placed eighth with a time of 15.31 seconds.
In the boys 400 meter dash, Cedric Harper placed sixth with a time of 1:14.57. Finn O’Brien placed eighth, running a 1:14.90. Zachary Lyndaker ran a 1:15.95, placing tenth. Elijah Williams placed 12th with a time of 1:26.22.
In the girls 400, Dilek Eissenstat placed ninth with a time of 1:20.86. Melanie Ward placed 12th, running a 1:26.77.
In the boys 800 meter run, Carson White placed fourth with a time of 2:45.
In boys high jump, Finn O’Brien and John Mitchell tied for fourth, jumping 4 ft. Andrew Downing placed ninth with a jump of 3 ft. 8 in.
In boys long jump, Carson White placed sixth, jumping 12 ft. 1 in.
Melanie Ward placed first in girls long jump, jumping 12 ft. 3 in. Elizabeth Metcalf placed third with a distance of 11 ft. 9 in. Parker Gallagher jumped 11 ft. 8 in, placing fifth. Sophia Choi placed tenth with a distance of 10 ft. 5 in.
In boys triple jump, Zachary Lyndaker placed second, jumping 29 ft. 6 in.
Elizabeth Metcalf placed first in the girls triple jump with a distance of 24 ft. 8 in.
In boys discus, Ayden Hoyt placed 12th, throwing 56 ft. 5 in.
In the girls shot put, JessieJean Coffin placed 12th, throwing 16 ft. 8 in.
Canton placed fourth overall. The athletes are looking forward to their next season. Thank you to Coach Lyndaker for helping the team gain confidence and grow stronger.
