Bears Baseball Blanks Sandstoners

On Wednesday, May 15 the Canton Golden Bears Varsity Baseball team traveled to Potsdam to face off against their Route 11 rivals on the Sandstoners Senior Night. The Bears would win by a score of 6-0.

The Bears and Sandstoners would stay tied at 0-0 through two innings. It wasn’t until the third inning that Sophomore Gavin Schryver would start things off for the Bears. Schryver doubled to center field and was batted in by Junior Jackson Ames. Ames stole second base, putting himself in a scoring position. Zadok Roiger would get a base hit moving Ames to third base. Roiger would steal second as well. Charlie Todd struck a base hit into right field scoring both Ames and Roiger. Charlie Todd would reach second on a steal after a failed hit and run. JJ Ahlfeld hit a hard ground ball through the gap into left field scoring Todd giving the Bears a 4-0 lead after the third inning.

The Bears played a strong game on defense to keep the Sandstoners from crossing the plate. The Bears would score two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to win by the final score of 6-0.

Schryver led the Bears on offense going 3-4 at the plate.

The Bears started Zadok Roiger on the mound and brought in Jackson Ames to relieve. Eventually Charlie Todd would close the game. The Bears pitchers threw a combined 6 strikeouts giving up 3 hits.

The Bears finished the season with a record of 5-10.

With the win against Potsdam the Bears secured the number 3 seed in class B.
