JV Bears Nip Shamrocks Under Rainbow

In Canton on Monday afternoon, Canton 22, Salmon 21

Good luck must have been shining down on Ike Noble fields as the Canton Junior Varsity Bears squeaked out an extra innings victory over the visiting Salmon River Shamrocks by a single point. Although the visitors uniforms were donned with their green four leaf clover, it was the Bears who were favored under the passing shower and rainbow which reigned over Ike Noble Fields on Monday.

The game was close throughout the evening with the Bears getting behind early but closing the gap as the game went on. The weather played a factor in pitching with difficulty finding the strike zone as the rain started to fall.  A double rainbow came out to stun the fans in the fifth inning which is when the Bears pushed through nine runs to close the gap to three. Both teams battled to the end and key hits allowed the Bears to drive in the winning runs in the bottom of the eighth.

“The team battled through some adversity tonight but kept their poise and came up with key hits when we needed them. Once again runs were produced throughout the entire lineup which helps balance the offense,” stated Coach Wentworth.

Offensively for the Bears multiple players scored single runs and two runs were scored from Aida Baker, Emma Hayes, “Mak” Hogan, Elise Harris, Harley Larsen and  Kaitlyn Holbrook. Coming up with two hits were Layla Clifford, Hayes and Hogan.

Pitching duties were handled by Mia Wilson with four strikeouts and Elle Manno pitching four innings.
