In Potsdam on Tuesday afternoon, Canton 16, Potsdam 1
The Canton Golden Bears Varsity team traveled to Potsdam on Wednesday afternoon to play the Potsdam Sandstoners in a Central Division Match up. The win is the 15th victory of the season for the Bears placing their record at 15-1, setting them on a potential collision course with current division leader Gouverneur. The Bears are only a 1/2 game behind the leaders as Gouverneur’s record is 16-1 with no games left. Each team’s only loss this season was to each other. The Bears travel to Malone this afternoon to attempt to earn a share of the division.
The Bears outscored the Stoner 16-1, highlighted by a sixth inning solo homerun by senior Maya Thomas. Thomas also had a double and a single.
Also swinging the bats well for the Bears were Chloe Baxter and Elle White who each had a four hit game with a double. Tessa Alguire and Jenna Larrabee each belted an RBI double in the win. From the circle the Alguire-White Duo spun a combined three hitter, striking out eight.
“Maya really barreled that one up in the sixth inning. I am happy for her. She puts in so much extra time and it is nice to see the work pay off. Tomorrow’s game at Malone should be a fun one,” stated Coach Wentworth.
Canton is scheduled to finish up the regular season on Thursday when they travel to Malone to face the Huskies. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30.
