Modified Track Competes in Big Sectional Meet

On May 10th, the Canton modified track team participated at an invitational at Franklin Academy. They competed against many of the section’s schools, including Malone, Ogdensburg, Massena, Potsdam, Gouverneur, Madrid-Wadington, and Tupper Lake.

In the girls 100 meter dash, Mary Abuhassan placed third with a time of 14.60 seconds. In fourth was Sola Oakley, who ran the race in 14.70 seconds. Melanie Ward placed sixth with a time of 14.80 seconds. Elizabeth Metcalf placed seventh with a time of 14.90 seconds. Isis Casserly placed 27th with a time of 17 seconds.

In the boys 100, John Mitchell ran the race in 13.90 seconds, placing sixth. Ayden Hoyt placed 24th with a time of 18 seconds.

Melanie Ward placed fifth in the girls 200 meter dash with a time of 30.80 seconds. Sola Oakley was right behind with a time of 30.90 seconds, placing sixth. JessieJean Coffin placed 11th with a time of 34.10 seconds. Isis Casserly placed 22nd with a time of 38.30 seconds.

In the boys 200 meters, Carson White placed 14th with a time of 31.70 seconds. Ayden Hoyt placed 25th with a time of 38 seconds.

Mary Abuhassan placed first in the girls 55 meter hurdles with a time of 10.70 seconds.

John Mitchell placed sixth in the boys 55 meter hurdles with a time of 10.70 seconds.

In the boys 800 meter run, Cedric Harper placed third with a time of 2:40. Parker Smith placed fifth with a time of 2:56. In sixth place was Zachary Lyndaker, running a 3:01. In seventh was Finn O’Brien, running a 3:12. Elijah Williams ran a 3:16, placing eighth.

In the girls long jump, Mary Abuhassan placed third with a jump of 12 ft. 5 in. Elizabeth Metcalf placed fifth, jumping a distance of 12 ft. 2 in. Placing eighth was Melanie Ward with a jump of 11 ft. 5 in.

In boys long jump, Carson White placed eighth, jumping 11 ft. 4 in.

Elizabeth Metcalf placed first in the girls triple jump, jumping 24 ft 1 in.

In the girls shot put, JessieJean Coffin placed tenth with a throw of 15 ft. 2 in.

In boys discus, John Mitchell placed 13th with a throw of 58 ft. 6 in. Ayden Hoyt placed 14th with a throw of 58 ft 1 in.

The Canton girls 4×100 relay team placed third with a total time of 59.90 seconds.

The boys 4×100 team placed seventh with a time of 1:03.

In the 1200 meter mixed medley relay, the Canton team placed second with a time of 3:41.

Canton placed fifth overall in the meet. The next meet will be on May 17th at Tupper Lake.
