The modified Golden Bears softball team opened their season with a loss to a tough Gouverneur team on Monday. The Wildcats defeated the Bears 19- 6. Offensively the Bears were led by Zoey Zebedee who went 2-3 including a double and scored two runs. Grace Dollman added a double and 2 RBIs. Bella Doughty added a hit and scored one run in the effort. Matayah Reed also had a hit. Lilly Todd added two runs and Taylor Stone scored once.
Defensively the Bears were able to keep the game close until the bottom of the 5th inning. Some standout plays included a beautiful catch by Hallee Bullock in the 2nd inning and a double play where Doughty caught a pop up at 1st base and made a heads up play to throw to Taylor Stone at 3rd base and get the runner out before she got back to the base. Pitching duties were shared by Grace Dana, Zebedee, and Todd. Dana had 6 strikeouts and Todd had 2.
The Golden Bears will host the Malone Huskies today at 4:30.
