Shipman Breaks Section Record on Hurdles

On Saturday, January 27 the Canton Indoor Track and field teams attended their only invitational of the season at the St. Lawrence Indoor track. The Invitational brought in most of the usual teams, as well as others from the Adirondack region.

In the girl’s final scores, Saranac Central placed first with 112 points, Potsdam placed second with 67 points, Beekmantown placed third with 56.5 points, Canton placed fourth with 52 points, and Peru Central placed fifth with 48 points.

For the boys, Peru Central won the meet with 100 points, followed by Saranac Central with 90 points, Beekmantown with 74 points, Norwood-Norfolk with 51 points, and Canton placed fifth with 44.5.

The Canton boys won the 4×800-meter relay in 8:54.43 with a team of Daniel Armendariz-Huang, Rylan Lee-Powell, Kaden Worthley, and Aiden Rodriguez-Doyle. Beekmantown gave the team the most competition of the year, finishing in 8:58.80.

In the girl’s 60-meter hurdles Stella Shipman broke the Section X record with a new best of 10.17, shattering the old record by 0.11 seconds.

Armendariz-Huang placed third in the 1600-meter runin 4:45.87.

Salma Moumen placed second in the 1500-meter run in 5:16.65, and Rodriguez-Doyle placed third in the 3200-meter run in 10:27.95.

Shipman placed third in the 300-meter run in 44.35, Armendariz-Huang placed second in the 1000-meter run in 2:50.87, and Bennett Schmitt placed third in the 3000-meter run in 11:34.48.
