All 13 players who dressed recorded at least one point in a 54-12 win over Norwood-Norfolk, and Ryan Jones scored 17 points, dished out five assists and had four steals to lead the Canton varsity boys basketball team to a 53-34 win over Malone and increase the team’s winning streak to seven games.
Jones, Talan Green and Oliver Dollman all scored eight points to lead the Golden Bears in the win over the Flyers on January 11. Canton hit 72% of their 2-point attempts (18-for-25), with Green going 4-for-4.
Canton raced out to a 21-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
The Golden Bears got out to a similar start against Malone last Thursday, leading 22-6 after the first frame and 33-11 at the half. Jackson Ames played a big role in Canton’s quick start, scoring 11 of his 13 points in the first quarter.
Canton led by as many as 27, after winning a tight game by just five points in the first matchup between the NAC Central rivals in Malone in early December.
While Canton players have had impressive offensive performances during the win streak, which dates back to a non-league win over Queensbury on December 23, it has been the defense that has been the determining factor in the Golden Bears’ run.
Canton’s defense has allowed an average of just 25.0 points per game during the run, with no opponent scoring more than 37.
Canton, now 12-3 overall and 9-0 in the NAC Central, holds a two-game lead in the conference standings over second-place Massena with five games remaining. The two teams are set to tip-off against each other on Thursday night in Massena.
