Tupper Lake 4, Canton 3
Canton hit the road Wednesday evening, Dec. 20 to face off against The Lumberjacks of Tupper Lake. This game marks the start of Canton’s Section X play and is extremely important for the brown and gold.
The Golden Bears set the tone early with continuous pressure on the Lumberjacks goaltender. Josh Ayrassian opened the scoring after putting away a rebound off a sharp angle shot from Grady Nee. Tupper Lake responded minutes later with a shot from the top of the offensive zone that led to a goal of their own. The period drew to an end and both teams were still tied at one a piece.
Period two started off hot for Canton as Senior Brandon O’Shea deflected a shot from Carter Premo into the back of the net to give Canton the lead. Minutes later the Golden Bears found the back of the net yet again as the result of a well placed shot from the point by Sophomore Caleb Premo. Canton takes the 3-1 lead into intermission.
Tupper Lake found themselves down by two in the third period and looked to their Senior Captain Griffin Shaheen for a spark. Moments later Shaheen found himself on a break away and made a forehand-backhand move to beat the goaltender to put Tupper one away. The Lumberjacks struck again with just four minutes left. Regulation ended with a 3-3 tie going into overtime.
After some back and fourth play, the puck was carried into the zone by Griffin Shaheen. Shaheen looked for options, but ultimately decided to shoot. The puck trickled in the weak side past the Canton goaltender for the win.
Canton 3, Potsdam 1
The brown and gold looked to bounce back Friday night against The Potsdam Sandstoners. The game started out with a quick goal by Reid Doyle from Garrit Palmer. This gave Canton the lead going into intermission.
Owen Logan netted his third of the year from Jacob Rosales to make it 2-0. Potsdam rebounded with a goal of their own late in the second. Potsdam seemed to have to respond to Canton’s continuous pressure offensively which led to Caleb Premo netting the final goal with just a few minutes left on the clock with an empty-netter from his own zone.
Canton’s holiday break has come to a close and the Bears will take on Ithaca on Jan. 6 at 11:45 a.m. at Appleton Arena.
