Senior Talan Green scored 27 points, including 18 points on 3-point shots, to lead the visiting Canton varsity boys basketball team a 71-49 win over Gouverneur in a Northern Athletic Conference Central Division game on Friday night.

The Golden Bears took a slim 28-27 lead into the third quarter, but surged to a 40-27 lead after a 12-0 run to start the second half thanks to a 3-pointer by Ethan Francey, a pair of free throws by Jackson Ames, two layups by Green and a 3-pointer by Ryan Jones.
The offensive onslaught continued throughout the third quarter, as Canton outscored the Wildcats 26-9 to build a 54-36 lead going into the final frame. Green scored 16 points in the third quarter alone, including four of his six 3-pointers.
Jones added 21 points for the Bears, who improved to 4-0 in conference play and 4-2 overall. The Golden Bears hit a season-high 13 3-pointers; Green made six, Jones hit three, Charlie Todd contributed two, and Francey and Zadok Roiger both converted one.
The Golden Bears appeared to take control of the game early in the second quarter, building a 19-13 lead, but Gouverneur used an 11-2 run to take a 24-21 lead. A 3-pointer by Green and a layup by Jones put Canton back in front going into halftime.
Jared Donaldson led the Wildcats (2-3 overall, 2-2 NAC Central) with 15 points, while Raine Rumble and Brodie Burns both scored 14.
Canton will host Potsdam, coached by former Golden Bear Justin Todd ’97, in a matchup between two teams with unbeaten conference records, on Tuesday night. Opening tip-off for the modified game is 4 p.m., the JV game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game to follow.
