In Lisbon on Thursday night, Canton 27, Lisbon 18
The Canton Girls JV Basketball team traveled to Lisbon Thursday night to open up the season. The team is very young and inexperienced with only three returning players on this year’s roster.
The young Bear Cubs started out very slow getting down 9-2 in the first quarter. To make it even worse, leading scorer Elle White picked up three early fouls. After the slow start though they picked up a little momentum and started to pull ahead. The game ended with a 27-18 victory for Canton.
Leading the way was eighth grader Elle White with 18 points and 15 rebounds in the game. Sophomore Jenna Larrabee was also a force on the boards collecting six rebounds and four points.
“We are getting better every time we step in the gym,” said Coach Mike Wentworth. “Today was a very slow start but the girls grinded it out until they could get in a rhythm. I think by the end of the season people will see a very different team step on the floor. Elle and Jenna are going to have to carry us for a while until the younger girls get used to playing at this level.”
