On Tuesday, Sept. 19, the Modified Canton Cross Country team competed in a meet in Potsdam. The muddy terrain and the rocky course proved to be difficult, but every runner persevered.

The course was 1.5 miles long and had a few hills. The other teams that competed consisted of Brushton-Moira, Gouverneur, Malone, Massena, Norwood-Norfolk Central, OFA, Salmon River, Tupper Lake, & Potsdam Central.
The girls were the first to start the course. Jillian Richardson placed 8th, running a 10:14. In 17th place was Addison Ragen, who ran the course in 11:38. Ashlan Foster and Sophie Hu were neck-and-neck. Foster ran the 1.5 miles in 12:59, placing 29th, and Hu ran the course in 13:03, placing 30th. The four girls competed against 31 other runners.

The boys race soon followed, where Basil Cheney ran a 9:34, finishing in 8th place. Zachary Lyndaker ran the course in 9:49, ranking 12th. Parker Smith, hot on Zach’s heels, finished the course in 10:04, placing 13th. In 17th place was Cedric Harper who ran a 10:29. The Canton boys ran against 32 other runners.
Each runner displayed endurance and stamina, and ran a phenomenal race. The athletes will continue to run their next meet at Gouverneur on Sept. 27.
