On Tuesday, Sept. 12 the Canton Cross Country teams went to Norwood-Norfolk for their first dual meet of the season against Potsdam and Norwood. This was one of the hilliest courses that the Cross Country team is running this year, with much more elevation than last week’s course.
The girl’s team ran first, with Canton’s Team Captain Bennett Schmitt starting out in the lead and staying in first, finishing in a time of 21:07. She was followed by Norwood-Norfolk’s Allie Snell, who led her team to first place in a time of 21:21. The third place finisher was Madison Carista from Norwood-Norfolk who ran the course in 21:40. The other members of Canton’s top five were Ori Casserly, who placed fifth in 22:31, Johanna Tupper, who placed ninth in 25:08, CJ McKinley, who placed 10th in 25:24, and Lena Frank who placed 14th in 26:01. Norwood beat Canton 22-41, and Canton and Norwood both beat Potsdam 15-50.
In the boy’s race Norwood’s Dominic Fiacco set out at a dominant pace gapping the other runners and carrying that pace, finishing in first by over a minute, with a time of 17:23. Canton filled in the next two spots, with Aiden Rodriguez-Doyle placing second in 18:41, and Rylan Lee-Powell finishing third in 18:55. Canton’s top five was filled out by Lucas Watts, who finished fifth in 19:15, Adam Sabatini placed eighth in 19:59, and Kaden Worthley finished ninth in 20:21. Canton won the meet, beating Norwood 24-32, and beating Potsdam 18-40. Norwood beat Potsdam 24-31.
