The Golden Bears hit the road to take on the Flyers at Norwood-Norfolk on Saturday, Sept. 16. The Bears got off to a quick start as eighth grader Matt Holbrook converted a pass from Jude Polniak to take an early 1-0 lead. It was the first goal of the year for the young Bears and helped provide some momentum for the first half.
The Bears and Flyers would trade goals back and forth, with the Golden Bears holding the lead 3-2 at halftime. Matt Holbrook recorded three goals for the Bears in the first half, while Jude Polniak and Malachi Conant recorded assists.
In the second half it was the Flyers who struck first tying the game up quickly into the third quarter. For the Bears, Matt Holbrook struck again, recording his fourth goal and allowing the Bears to re-take the lead. However, the Flyers would counter and tie the game back at four shortly after that.
Late in the fourth quarter as the game was looking like overtime, a Norwood-Norfolk attacker snuck past the defense and tucked one in to make the score 5-4. Co-players of the game went to Matt Holbrook and Jude Polniak who were instrumental in getting the Bears’ offense going.
The Bears are looking to build on their progress this week as they take on the Massena Raiders this Tuesday at home. Kickoff at 4:30 p.m.
