In Canton on Wednesday afternoon at Ike Noble Fields, Canton 9, Saranac 1
The Canton Golden Bears Varsity Softball team hosted the Saranac Chiefs at Ike Noble Fields on Wednesday afternoon in NYS Softball action. The Bears walked away with a 9-1 victory advancing them to the elite eight. Canton will next play Ichabod Crane in Albany on Saturday afternoon at the Luther Forest Athletic Fields in Malta New York. Game time is scheduled for 4:30.

The Bears jumped on top of the Chiefs in the first inning when Hadley Alguire hit a two run homerun, driving in her sister Tessa. Alguire finished the day with three hits and three RBI’s. Sydnee Francis, Tessa Alguire and Courtney Peters each smacked two hits in the game. Francis double driving in two runs. Olivia Sero also ripped an RBI triple in the winning cause. Freshman Jenna Larrabee also hit a ball off the top of the fence in the sixth inning for a double and her first career varsity hit.

Hadley Alguire and Ava Hoy combined for the three hit, sixteen strikeout win from the circle.

“Saranac played great defense for five innings but we finally put a big inning together late in the game. When Hadley hit the two run home run and then later Sydnee threw out a runner at second, those two plays really pumped everyone up and got us going. Getting that win to advance to the elite eight is nice for the program. Again our aggressive baserunning and solid pitching was the difference in the game.” said Coach Mike Wentworth

Game Note:
Senior Sydnee Francis broke the school’s single season stolen base record yesterday. She now has 50 bags on the year, breaking Lexi Huiett’s old mark of 48. Francis broke the career stolen base record earlier in the season.
