Fast Start Not Enough For Bears In Regional Championship

On Saturday afternoon in Malta NY, Ichabod Crane 15,  Canton 5 (Regional Final)

The Canton Golden Bears traveled to Malta, New York on Saturday afternoon after an impressive send off from the Golden Bears Softball Nation.  Canton was playing Ichabod Crane, the number one team in the state and the reigning State Champions in the Regional finals.  The Bears started out fast and jumped out on top in the first inning by scoring four runs in the first inning but Crane tied it up in the bottom of the inning and went on to a 5-15 win.

Hadley Alguire, Ava Hoy and Tessa Alguire shared the pitching duties.  Offensively, Sydnee Francis led the team with two hits.  Tessa Alguire finished the day with an RBI double, Hoy smoked an RBI triple.  Maya Thomas and Hadley Alguire also poked hits in the game.

“This was a tough way to end a great season.  When we jumped on them in the first inning I started to think maybe but we just could hold them off.  The conditions were tough today and Ichabod Crane is obviously a very good team.  I can’t tell you enough how proud Kacie and I are with this group.  They had a great season and one that people will always remember.  We want to thank all the girls and their families for all of the support.  It was a fun ride.”  from Coach Wentworth.

Game Note:

Canton finished the season with a 19-2 record.  Central League Title, Class B Champions, NYS Class B Regional Finalist
