Golden Bears Golf Complete Second Straight Undefeated Season

The Canton Golden Bears golf team wrapped up a second straight undefeated season on Monday with a win over Madrid-Waddington. The Bears finished 10-0-1 on the season and will compete for their third straight sectional title on Thursday and Friday at Partridge Run Golf Course in Canton. Although it is in their home town, Partridge Run is technically the home course to Madrid-Waddington, but it is a familiar course for many of the Golden Bear golfers.

On Monday, the bears hosted Colton-Pierrepont for their final home match of the 2023 season and won 214-312. Leading the way for the Bears was senior Sam Sieminski who shot a 38 followed by junior Ryan Jones who carded a 40. After a rare day off for the golfers, they traveled to Salmon River where they defeated the Shamrocks 208-235. Medaling in the match was senior John O’Neill who tallied an impressive 2 under par 34. Ryan Jones once again rounded out the top of the scoreboard with a 39. The week ended with the long road trip to Malone where the Bears faced a challenging east course on a windy day. The only Bear who broke 40 was junior Ryan Jones who put up an impressive 38 after a birdie on the 9th hole leading the bears to a 224-239 victory. The final match of the season took place in Canton where the Bears were the visiting team against Madrid- Waddington. The Bears completed their undefeated season with a 224-278 victory led once again by Junior Ryan Jones who shot a 39.

The Bears have a lot of momentum heading into sectionals but will have to contend with Ogdensburg who they tied in their one meeting this year. They also expect Malone and Massena to put up a fight for the title. Conditions are looking good for the two-day event and the Bears look to finish up a on a strong note. Seniors John O’Neill and Sam Sieminski hope to wrap up their careers with a third straight sectional title for the Golden Bears.
