The Canton Golden Bears Varsity Softball team hosted the Salmon River Shamrocks on Monday night in a first round play off game. The win secures them a trip across town to Saint Lawrence University on Wednesday at 5:00 pm. Before the game Canton senior Kayla Larrabee sang the National Anthem and from that point on the fireworks started. The Bear scored nine runs in the first inning and never looked back to win 15-0.

“After Kayla sang the National Anthem the girls came out firing. We played well today and Wednesday’s game should be a fun one, ” remarked Coach Mike Wentworth.

Hadley Alguire, Tessa Alguire and Ava Hoy combined for the one hitter, striking out eight.

The Bears were led at the plate by Sydnee Francis and Katie Metcalf who each had three hits apiece. Hadley Alguire and Olivia Sero each smach two hits. Tessa Alguire stroked a double in the win.
The Bears next game will be the B finals against Gouverneur at St. Lawrence University on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm. Section X awards will follow the game.
