After a perfect 5-0 week, the Golden Bears golf team remains undefeated and sits in a tie with OFA at the top of the section. The Bears faced off against the Gouverneur Wildcats on Tuesday at the Oliver D Appleton Golf Course. This was the second match of their 5-match week. Canton played their first home contest of the week with some uncharacteristically high numbers from both teams. Not a single player broke into the thirties, but Canton came away victorious with a final score of 220 strokes to Gouverneur’s 268.
Massena was next up on the schedule and hosted the Bears on Wednesday where Canton faced their toughest matchup since OFA. After a windy day on the course, Collin Patterson came in with the low round at 37. But with two big 38’s for Canton, Ryan Jones and John O’Neill led the way to victory for Canton. The Bears prevailed in a close match with a final score of 226-210.
On Thursday, the Bears boarded the bus for the long ride to Clifton-Fine. The Bears faced a long round and some impressive scores from Senior John O’Neill who shot a 36 and Junior Ryan Jones who shot a 38. Canton ended up running away with the match with a final tally of 292-210.
The final match of the week was back in Canton against Tupper Lake to finish off a busy week. Ryan Jones led the way again for the Bears with a 38 while Sam Sieminski carded a 39. Canton pulled away for a 252-212 win.
Canton has three of their four remaining matches next week hosting Colton-Pierrepont while travelling to Malone and Salmon River. The regular season wraps up the following week with sectionals at Partridge Run golf course Memorial Day Weekend.
