Looking to continue their undefeated streak from last season, Canton headed to Ogdensburg on Friday in a match between two unbeaten teams. Both are at the top of the division and after a hard-fought battle, the match ended in a 206-206 draw. OFA’s Ethan Bouchard shot an even round of 35 which ended up being the lowest round of the day. Ryan Jones came in with the low score for the Bears with a 36 with three birdies in a row on holes 3, 4, and 5.
“The boys came out hot for their second match of the year. I dialed it in and put a good score on the board for the team,” said Jones.
Sam Sieminski finished with a 38, followed by John O’Neill with a 40, Daniel O’Neill with a 45, and Will McDonough with a 47 to round out the Canton score card.
The Bears then headed to Potsdam to play the Sandstoners on Monday. Despite Potsdam’s Ian Van Wagner medaling with a 38, Canton used its depth to post a 23-stroke victory and got an impressive performance out of Freshman Daniel O’Neill who shot a 39 on the round. Sam Sieminski matched him at 39, John O’Neill followed one stroke back shooting 40, Ryan Jones posted a 41, and Jackson Zebedee rounded out the scoring with a 48.
After the Potsdam win, Daniel O’Neill commented “Good round today from the team. We are looking to keep the momentum going into a big week of play for the squad.”
Due to last week’s rain, Canton has a match scheduled every day this week. The Bears will host Gouverneur and Tupper Lake and travel to Massena and Clifton Fine in a big week for the team.
