On Wednesday afternoon, April 3 in Canton: Canton 4,  Massena 1

If you like good old fashioned pitchers duals, last Wednesday’s Varsity Softball game between Canton and Massena was for you. Canton’s Hadley Alguire and Ava Hoy out dueled Massena’s Isabelle Wilson with only 3 total hits given up in the game.

Alguire started and took a perfect game into the fifth inning until Wilson broke it up by hitting a solo homerun over the right field fence for Massena’s only hit and run of the game.  Alguire pitched five innings, giving up one hit, striking out seven. Hoy came in to close the door, earning the save, pitching two innings, striking out five.

The only two hits for Canton were by Sydnee Francis who also scored two runs and swiped four bases. Tessa Alguire was also very active on the bases, walking three times and scoring twice and swiping three bases of her own.

“That was a very well pitched game by both teams! The difference in the game was really our aggressive baserunning,” said Coach Mike Wentworth. “We had to create runs and players like Sydnee, Tessa and Courtney Peters create a lot of excitement when they get on base. That was a nice win for us but it’s now time to turn our focus toward St. Lawrence Central.”
