Canton’s Varsity golf team had their season opener last Friday, April 28 where they faced off against the Norwood-Norfolk Flyers. The Bears’ first match was a home match at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course, where they had hosted sectionals the previous year. They went undefeated last year with a perfect record of 11-0 and won Section X for the second year in a row. The Bears are looking to do the same this year and started off on the right foot.

The varsity golf team continued its tradition of a post-match Dairy Queen run to celebrate its recent win over Norwood-Norfolk

Canton found success with their upperclassmen on Friday. Senior Sam Sieminski, Senior John O’Neill and Junior Ryan Jones all finished at the top of the leaderboard for individual scores. Another notable round of the match was from first year seventh grader Jackson Zebedee who shot a 49 in his first ever varsity match. Daniel O’Neill capped off Canton’s scoring with a 51. The Bears finished with a combined score of 220 strokes to Norwood’s 259. Monday’s match against Gouverneur was postponed to next week due to rain.

Box Score: Sieminski 39, John O’Neill 40, Jones 41, Zebedee 49, and Daniel O’Neill 51.
