Canton 21, Salmon River 0
The Canton Girls Varsity Softball team hosted the Salmon River Shamrocks on Friday afternoon and outscored them 21-0 in five innings.
Courtney Peters made her first start of the season in the circle and picked up the win pitching 3 innings, striking out five. Ava Hoy and Hadley Alguire also pitched one inning each, both striking out three.

Sydnee Francis led the Bears at the plate, collecting 3 hits and driving in four. In the process, Francis broke Canton’s career stolen base record when she swiped her 76th bag of her career in the third inning. The record was previously held by Natasha “Taco” Bell who graduated in 2010 and went on to an outstanding career at St. Lawrence University.
Tessa Alguire and Hadley Alguire each had two hits and a double in the game. Katie Metcalf, Courtney Peters, and Chloe Baxter also joined the hit parade with two singles each.

“We were very aggressive at the plate today and I think we did much better swinging at good pitches which showed on the scoreboard,” said Coach Mike Wentworth. “It is always fun as a coach to see players go to the plate with confidence and try to attack the ball. It was also great to see Courtney Peters throw well in the circle. She always amazes me when she pitches. I think she could wake up in the morning, grab her glove and cleats and start throwing strikes if we needed her to.”
