In Brasher Falls on Thursday afternoon, April 19: Canton 16, St. Lawrence Central 0

The Canton Varsity Softball team traveled to Brasher to face off with one of the top teams in Section X on Thursday afternoon. The Bears got off the bus swinging the bats and didn’t stop until they scored 16 unanswered runs, winning the game by the final score of 16-0.

Offensively the Bears were led by Katie Metcalf who was 2-2 with a double and 3 RBIs. Courtney Peters, Mya Thomas, Tessa Alguire and Hadley Alguire also had two hits in the game. Ava Hoy also had an RBI double in the win.

In the circle Canton continued their strong start in a combined one hitter striking out nine in five innings. Hadley Alguire picked up the win with Hoy and Tessa Alguire earning a hold and a save.

“Hadley, Ava and Tessa were all impressive tonight on the mound,” said Coach Mike Wentworth. “I love how all three pounded the strike zone. The story though was the way we swung the bats tonight. As a team we really attacked the ball today. I knew we were capable of putting runs on the board but tonight even surprised me. SLC is a very good and well coached team. They will be ready when they come to Canton in a couple weeks. It will be a much different game.”
