Canton 67, Madrid Waddington 34
The Canton Golden Bears defeated the Yellow Jackets on Thursday night in the Houli Dome, with a final score of 67-34 in favor of the Golden Bears. With this win Canton advances to the Class C Championship with the chance of bringing home a class championship for the second year in a row.
The Jackets came into this game with all of the momentum in the world, coming off a big win against Brushton-Moira and poised to pull off the upset. And after the first quarter of play it seemed possible. Within the first few minutes of the game Madrid-Waddington jumped out to an early lead that stunned the Bears to start. But as the nerves settled for Canton they started to get a rhythm, and jumped out to a 12-point lead going into the half.
Aaron Jones, Head Coach for the Yellow-Jackets was daring Canton to shoot the three all night as it’s something that they have struggled all season with. But this strategy proved to be fatal for him, as Canton shot it very well from beyond the arc and ended up putting the game out of reach for Madrid-Waddington.
The Bears will roll into the Class C Championship poised for a repeat of last season as they face off against the Tupper Lake Lumberjacks on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Maxcy Hall.
