Canton Wrestlers Take Home Fourth at Sectionals

The Section X Championship match was held at Canton on Thursday which saw four Canton wrestlers make the finals. Canton came into sectionals tied for second in the overall standings with Malone and a half-point up on Massena.

At 110 pounds Canton’s Noah Curry squeaked out an 8-7 decision win over his opponent Joshua Stevens (Malone), but fell short in the championship match against Gouverneur’s James Minkler.

At 132 pounds Canton’s Connor Clifford lost in the semifinal match via pin at 1:53 to Joesph Green (Ogdensburg).

Nick Locy represented Canton at 138 pounds where he lost in the semifinal matchup against Gouverneur’s Turner Sochia who ended up winning the weight class.

Graham Rozler made it to the 152-pound finals where he faced off against Vandavian Way (Gouverneur) where Rozler lost by pin.

Canton’s Jack Joyce faced off against Malone’s Logan Robideau at 160 pounds where he fell by pin at 1:07.

Charlie Rossner (172 lbs) won his semifinal match by decision and went off to face Malone’s Cayden Carter in the finals where he was pinned late in the match.

Caleb Murcray (189 lbs) also won his semifinal match and went on to face Malone’s Cooper Funk where he lost to a pin at 1:13 in the finals.

Canton’s Michael Cogdill lost his semifinal match but won in his consolation match by pin at 1:00 against Malon’s Calvin Laundry at 215 pounds.

Canton ended up in fourth place overall at 99 points behind OFA at 109, Malone at 135, and Gouverneur at 199.
