Salmon River 9, Canton 2
The Golden Bears took one to the chin on Friday night against Salmon River, the number one ranked team in the state in Division II. The final score of the game was 9-2 in favor of the Shamrocks.
Canton came out hot in the first period, jumping out to a two-goal lead early with goals scored by Jacob Rosales and then another by Drew Blevins, a top corner snipe as he was falling down and away from the net.
But then Salmon rebounded with a goal and made the first period final score 2-1 in favor of the Golden Bears. A solid first period of play for the Bears as Salmon was the heavy favorite in this contest. But unfortunately the next two periods of play for the Bears were not as good as the first, with the Shamrocks piling on the shots which led to many goals. Goaltender Daniel Creurer had a solid game in net for the Bears, with 43 total saves. Gavin Schryver relieved Creurer of goaltending duties about halfway through the third period, and stopped 14 shots while allowing only one goal for the remainder of the contest. And although this wasn’t the desired outcome it was a good game to build off of for the Bears.
Canton 1, BFA 0
Canton had a good win on Saturday afternoon in Salmon River against Bellows Free Academy with the final score of the game being 1-0 in favor of the Bears and giving them a spark as their regular season’s end nears and playoffs creep closer.
The star of the show for the Bears on Saturday was Sophomore goaltender Daniel Creurer, pitching his first career shutout for the Bears and giving them a much needed win. Canton scored the only goal of the day for either team on a power play in the first period of play. Netting that goal for the Bears was Junior Jacob Rosales, and assisting it was Reid Doyle and Jonney Mclear. This goal by the Bears proved to be fatal for BFA, as it would put them in a deficit that Daniel Creurer just would not let them get out of. He stood strong in net for all three periods of play, with nine saves in the first, 12 in the second and 15 to cap off the win in the third. Canton now has four wins on the season with two of them coming in the last three games. Canton seems to be possibly heating up at the perfect time.
