On Tuesday the Golden Bears pulled of a decisive victory against Massena by a score of 54-27. With this victory the JV Golden Bears sealed their title of Section X winners with the most wins with still two games left to play in the season.
Canton 54, Massena 27
A total of 12 different players scored for the Bears including Sophomore Charlie Todd who had 10 points and Freshman Zadok Roiger who had eight. John Wilcox got the Bears going in the first quarter with an early layup on the first possession of the game, followed by a steal defensively. The Bears shot very well from behind the arc, draining 10 threes made by five different players. Freshman Danny O’Neill had a great backdoor cut to the basket in the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Bears.
Canton 48, Potsdam 39
On Friday the Bears faced off against a familiar opponent, Potsdam. The last time the teams met, the Golden Bears came out on top putting up 47 points on the Sandstoners. In the first quarter of the game on Friday the Golden Bears led by four, as they struggled to find open court buckets in transition. In the second quarter, the Golden Bears used their fitness as an advantage over the Sandstoners, finding many more transition layups. The Bears also only allowed four points in the second quarter while scoring 12. Throughout the rest of the game the Bears proved themselves the better team by matching up with Potsdam and only fouling four times in the second half. Zadok Roiger led the Bears with a career-high 21 points and he was four-for-five on three pointers.
