Canton 53, Massena 38

The Golden Bears faced off against a solid Massena team on Tuesday night in the Red Raiders gym. The final score of the game was 53-38 in favor of the Bears as they avenged a loss to the Raiders earlier in the season. Canton’s defense was what won them the game tonight, turning pestering and aggressive defense into quick and swift transition baskets.

Canton has struggled this season when it comes to shots behind the arc, with most of their season points coming inside the paint and in transition. However that was not the case in this game, with the Bears making more than 10 three pointers on the night. Senior Guard Vincent Nelson-Fuse led the charge for the Bears with five threes of his own. Ryan Jones and Talan Green chipped in a couple each as well. This was a very well-rounded game for the Bears on both ends of the court, and is a confidence builder for a team whose season has felt like a roller coaster.

Canton 45, Potsdam 42

The Bears squeaked out a solid league win on Friday night which also happened to be Senior night for the Bears. The final score of this contest was 45-42 in favor of the Golden Bears. This win puts them at 13-6 on the season with one game remaining in the regular season against Salmon River on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Eight Seniors were honored in this night for their hard work and determination throughout the years in Canton’s basketball program. These seniors included, James Bailey, Jayce Collins, John O’Neill, Zakaria Moumen, Vincent Nelson-Fuse, Luke Wentworth, Elias Snyder and Jack Kerrigan. The game was back and forth the entire game with neither team gaining much of a lead. Canton was just struggling to break away and with the game on the line Ryan Jones missed the front end of a one-and-one giving Potsdam a chance to tie it. Eight Grade Guard Ian VanWagner then drove down the court and missed the game tying three pointer.
